Module 1: Intro: The Mixing Blueprint System

When: Sunday 23 February 2025  @15:00 GMT

In module one, for the first time, Aubrey will demonstration her brand new approach to mixing called the '3 Hour Mixing Blueprint System' which will teach you how to get a pro mix in 3 hours or less using techniques and approaches she has refined over 10 years. This includes a step-by-step guide that you can use after the class to help apply the Blueprint to your own mix sessions.

 

Module 1 will also explore the crucial foundations of what makes a mix commercial sounding.

You will learn about current mixing trends and how to keep ahead of the curve, you'll learn what it takes to prepare for a successful mix session.

Module 2:  Compression Techniques

When: Sunday 2 March 2025 @15:00 GMT

Compression is one of the most important mixing tools at your disposal. In this module you will learn all of the key advanced compression techniques that can take your mix from an amateur mix to a professional mix.

You will learn about the compression parameters, multi-band compression, parallel compression, side-chain compression and how this all differs to expansion and transient shaping.

 

You’ll also explore the different types of compressors and how compressor choice can affect your mixes.

Module 3:  EQ Techniques

In this module, you will master the art of EQ sculpting to really create separation in your mix.

 

You will learn about analog EQs vs digital EQs, graphic EQ, parametric EQ, EQ matching, dynamic EQ, mid-side EQ as well as tuning drums and bass using EQ techniques.

You'll also explore the intricacies of frequency masking and how this affects mix definition.

 

You will also learn about phase issues, including linear phase and phase inversion, as well as comb-filtering and advanced harmonic mixing.

Module 4: Bus Processing, Automation & Metering

When: Sunday 16 March 2025 @15:00 GMT

This module is where the creative mixing really begins. Here you will take an in-depth look at routing and stereo bus processing to create coherent and blended mixes.

Then, you will watch as Aubrey demonstrates a series of advanced automation techniques which will see the parameters of various plugins being controlled by automation mapping. This creates interesting and dynamic effects, as well as managing volume levels in poorly recorded tracks.

Module 5: Creative Mixing Techniques

When: Sunday 23 March 2025 @15:00 BST

This module is all about being creative with your mix. Perhaps you want to re-create the sound of Motown vocals, or you are looking to re-amp a guitar so you can bring it to life, or perhaps you want to understand how noise gating can clean up your mix.

This module is a fun-packed 2 hours full of intelligent and thought-provoking mixing techniques that will take your mixes to new heights.

During this module you will learn:

  • Different types of reverbs and their uses

  • Different types of delays and their uses

  • Use of saturation in mixing

  • Emulating vintage sounds (e.g Motown/Soul sounds)

  • Audio warping and manipulation

  • Re-amping guitars

  • Noise gating

  • Audio restoration

  • Tape emulation​

Module 6: Vocal Producing, Editing & Mixing

When: Sunday 30 March 2025 @15:00 BST

Vocal Production is crucial to a successful mix. You should be spending 50% of your mix on getting the vocals right. This important module will cover everything from recording vocals, editing them, comping, tuning using Melodyne, and alignment tools such as VocAlign as well as alignment in Melodyne. You'll also learn about removing plosives, clicks, clips, noise, hum and hiss from vocals without affecting the audio quality.

Then it's about the vocal mixing - what to focus on, what plugins and techniques help lead to a pro sounding vocal - even if it's been recorded at home.

During this module you will learn:

  • Advanced recording vocal approaches at home

  • Comping vocal takes effortlessly

  • Cleaning vocals and removing noise

  • Tuning vocals in Celemony Melodyne 

  • Aligning vocals in Melodyne and VocAlign

  • Removing or softening breaths

  • Mixing vocals for a pro sound

  • Bus processing on backing vocals

Module 7: Modern Mastering & Optimisation

When: Sunday 6 April 2025 @15:00 BST

Mastering is an integral part of the music production process, and understanding how to master your own music is a great way to understand your mixes even more. In this detailed module, you'll learn how to use compression, EQ, saturation, and tonal shaping tools in mastering, as well as delve into the world of intersample peaking and True Peak Limiting and how these considerations can impact on your mixes once released.

During this module you will learn:

  • Using EQ in mastering

  • Using bus compression in mastering

  • Using saturation for greater detail

  • Using tonal EQ to shape the sound of the mix

  • Using True Peak Metering

  • Other Metering (VU, LUFS, LKFS, DBFS, dBV, dBu, durrough metering)

  • Mastering for CD and Vinyl

  • How to use a limiter properly

  • Using clipping in mastering

  • Exportation and sample rates

Module 8: How to Become a Successful in the Music Business

When: Sunday 13 April 2025 @15:00 GMT

This final module will explore the many career paths to success as a music producer, mix engineer or artist. From analysing Aubrey's own path to success, to look at the path's taken by well known producers and artists. You'll look at how to create your own income streams to support your development and how you can get regular work from record labels and major label artists.

Eligibility

This course is for anyone who wants to learn both foundation level and advanced mixing techniques - as both will be covered in the classes.  Therefore, all differing abilities and experience levels are welcome on the course

​

Although the techniques demonstrated will be shown in Logic Pro X, all techniques demonstrated can easily be replicated in any DAW (Pro Tools, Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio etc)

Course Fees

 

The fee for taking this course is £139.00 and is due in advance of the course start date. All major debit/credit cards are accepted.
